Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a virtual assistant?
As a virtual assistant (VA), I provide administrative support to small business owners. I can handle a variety of tasks and allow you to focus on the core aspects of your business.
  • How does a virtual assistant work?
I work remotely to support you and your business. If you hire me, we’ll decide upfront on the main tasks you need support with and once I have access to the relevant systems (if required) I get to work. For transparency, I always provide a time report on completion of work. For ease, I suggest mostly electronic communication such as email, Whatsapp or a project management tool such as Trello - whichever works best for you!
  • What tasks can I give a virtual assistant?
Anything that you need to get off your to-do list! As VA I handle a wide range of tasks including administrative tasks such as inbox and diary management, data entry and document creation. I also offer more creative support such as social media and blog writing. VAs in general usually offer a mix of tasks which is why it’s important to find the right one and discuss your requirements upfront.
  • How can a virtual assistant support my business?
There is no one way a virtual assistant can support your business - it’s all down to your own individual requirements. The ultimate goal for you should be to free up your time to focus on your clients, strategy and business growth. To work out exactly what you need support with, take a look at this blog to get started.
  • How flexible is a virtual assistant?
Very! As a small business owner, you don’t necessarily want to be tied into a package or a retainer. It’s why I offer adhoc support where you only pay for the hours you need, when you need them. Alternatively if you need regular support, a retainer package may be better suited and offer flexibility in the knowledge that you’ll always have my time guaranteed each month.
  • How can I hire a virtual assistant?
It’s essential to work out what you need support with before you contact a VA as you need to find one whose skillset matches your requirements. You can find out more about how I can support you and your business here. The next step is to book a free discovery call where we can get to know each other better and discuss the support you need in more detail.
  • What is the difference between an onshore and offshore virtual assistant?
An onshore virtual assistant works in the same country as you, operating under the same data protection laws and other regulations, as well as shared working hours. For example, I am a UK based virtual assistant and work with UK based clients. I’m fully insured and I am registered with the ICO. Offshore virtual assistants are based in a different country to their clients. Depending on their location, they may charge less, but their working hours are unlikely to align with yours which can mean delays in communication and they may not be compliant with your country’s data protection regulations or insurance requirements.
  • How does a virtual assistant handle client data and confidentiality?
All work I carry out for clients is strictly confidential. If you need to share any passwords, I always recommend using a password management tool such as LastPass to do this. I am registered with the ICO and comply with UK data protection laws. If the work I undertake requires the handling of personal data, I will provide you with a data processing agreement to complete and sign. For more information, you can view my privacy policy here.
  • Do I need to hire a virtual assistant near me?
No. As a virtual assistant, I support clients all over the UK. The beauty of hiring a virtual assistant is the flexibility it brings - you’re not limited to hiring someone local, you can explore talent country-wide to find the best fit for your needs.
  • How much does a virtual assistant cost?
I charge £30 an hour, inclusive. There are no hidden costs - I cover my own sick and holiday pay, tax and NI, insurance, pension, the lot. You can find out more about my pricing here.
